Tony Cobourn introduced new Memoirs instructor, Laurie Goldstein. President’s Report: Jerry Moore reported all time slots for fall are full. Power Point has been cancelled. Quicken may be cancelled. Frank Padula suggested we need guidelines regarding class cancellation. Jerry stated cancellation is usually up to Course Managers and they are also responsible for advising enrolled students. Brian Perry requested Power Point be held in the evening in the Winter Quarter and he will advise students who were enrolled in the cancelled class. Course Coordinator opportunities: Emory Reese mentioned need for Elements instructor for winter. Jerry will ask Maury Foreman about instructing. Still need someone for Room Readiness. Barbara McGowan has recently done some cleaning in the absence of a designated person. Treasurer’s Report: Paid students for fall will be around 65. Expenses during summer exceeded income due to carry over of dues payment from spring quarter. If CD moved to new bank would lose $18.00 interest. Total cash position as of 9/04/09 is $26,135.65. See report. Curriculum Coordinator: Julie Fogel not in attendance. Jerry reported Works manual updated to use flash drives. There are some problems with Vista and hotmail. Don Hogan reported he spent 16 hours last week working on computers and was not informed of Vista problems. John Rittenberg did let George Fuller know. Going on Server would solve most of problems. Jerry asked all instructors and coaches to notify Don, George and/or Ed Glynn of any problems no matter how insignificant. Technology: Don Hogan installed Office 2007 on the Vista side of all of the machines and applied 50 updates to all machines. We need to set up a Vista network, change machine names and assign printers. Most updates on Vista are current. On the Server side should be up and running by March 2010. We need one additional piece of software (SMS). The cost would be prohibitive if done now and will be reasonable by waiting to buy through Tech Soup. We can buy through Tech Soup only once a year. Don also reported he had added 5 new volunteers to the web site and is working on one more. Manual Coordinator: Bob Nelson reported George Fuller delivered manuals on September 9 and they have been filed in cabinets. Lab Report: Bob Nelson reported there were 19 students total during summer and 5 different volunteers helped. He needs volunteers for fall. Badges and Software: Bob Nelson reported all badges made and all requested flash drives have been made. Instructor/Coach Staffing Coordinator: Jack Thompson reported coaches needed for Microsoft Works, Vista, Word. He encouraged the instructors to recruit their own staff. Suggestions for the lack of volunteers included sanctions against volunteers on list who do not help and/or a note to non-working volunteers that name may be removed from the list. John Rittenberg suggested rotating the classes is a problem in maintaining the same coaches each quarter. Jack Thompson requested a list of benefits of being a volunteer that he could pass on to those currently listed. Publicity: Julie Cooper not in attendance. Jerry Moore reported Publicity has been real busy. All students for past 2 years were sent mailings; a list of addresses from the Orchards communities was obtained and mailings sent. Return rate from the Orchards mailing not yet known.. They also visited Staples, Office Max, Office Depot and left brochures for computer salesmen to use when computer purchases were made. 2 Student reviews from summer mentioned learning about classes from mailing. Internet and Email: Frank Padula reported a new manual is being worked on by Bill Buttrick. Exploring Windows: Manual redone to correct 4 errors. Thanks to George Fuller who also helped Bill Buttrick with his manual. Photoshop Elements: Emory Reese reported advanced course only will be taught. We have 4 paying student and 3 or 4 volunteers. Picasa class benefited from the Digital Camera class. Woodstock is teaching Jerry Moore’s Digital Camera class. Family Tree Maker: Don Hogan reported manual has been revised. Summer quarter went well. Other business: The nominating Committee presented slate of officers for 2010. The meeting was adjourned at 11:5 a.m... President Jerry immediately called the Executive Committee meeting to order. Mary Rummel joined the group. The primary purpose was to discuss things going on between Parks and Recreation and Senior Net. There are three issues—By-laws, Brochures and Banking change. By-Laws: Mary Rummel said this is more of a format change to make by-laws uniform with all groups. Tony Cobourn volunteered to head up committee to work on changes and will recruit 2-3 others. Brochures: Senior Net representation was cut heavily. Because of the cut they receive more phone calls requesting more info. The center is working on its own publication. Senior Net will help with this effort. . We asked for e-mail link to our web site and were promised it would be provided. BankingChange: Mary advised us objective is to bring all Parks and Rec organizations under one umbrella to help the organizations. City must have paper statement mailed to them. We will do that and obtain the information needed by Brian to reconcile our finances on line. We can keep bank account where it is. There will be a meeting at City Hall on September 22 at 7:00p.m. We need to send 2 representatives. Don Hogan and Brian Perry will attend. Jerry suggested we invest in a laptop for our treasurer. Group agreed. An Assistant Treasurer position was discussed. No action was taken... There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made by John Rittenberg and seconded by Frank Padula. Meeting adjourned at 12:15 Respectfully submitted, Helen Reese Secretary
